How do you "sell" a pet to another player?
When you choose to sell a pet, you basically are just emailing the exported file to the new owner and then deleting that pet from your own game. Some people choose to keep a file on their computer, some people don't, but the file you send out will always be in your sent box in your email, in case something happens.
How do I export a pet?
There are a few simple ways this is done.
1.) Enter Create a Sim with the animal (turn on 'testingcheatsenabled true', then shift click the animal and "Edit in CAS". On the pets mini picture, click the "..." symbol and select Export, name your file (usually the pets name) and hit the Check Mark. Don't worry, it WON'T be exported to the exchange! Then once you exit your game, locate your Exports folder. It may be at this location: 'C:/Users/Computers name/My Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3/Exports' depending on what operating system your computer has. Once you locate that folder, the exported pet will be in there! You then open an email to the new owner, or person receiving the pet, and insert that pets file and send.
2.) This method requires you to either have Nraas' Mover mod, OR a "travel sim" to send off with the pet. Doing it this way preserves any memories and skills the pet may have.
From your household, under the menu button, hit Edit Town. Click on your household, and select the "split household" option. It looks like two sims with a line between them (I think!) If you have Nraas' mover mod, you can put the pet into a household by itself. If you are using the travel sim method, you will then need to select the travel sim and the pet and then hit the Check Mark. The new household will be processed and will be on the left side of your screen on the sims "clipboard". Then you click on the household on the clipboard, and select the "export to the exchange" option, and the household will be put into your Exports folder!
Then once you exit your game, locate your Exports folder. It may be at this location: 'C:/Users/Computers name/My Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3/Exports' depending on what operating system your computer has. Once you locate that folder, the exported household will be in there! You then open an email to the new owner, or person receiving the pet, and insert that households file and send.
3.) This method created a .sim file that will be installed by just inserting it into the new owners "SavedSims" folder. Once you have the pet into CAS, click the "..." symbol on the pets mini picture, and select "Save to library bin". Now when you exit your game, you will need to locate your SavedSims folder. It may be located at 'C:/Users/Computers name/My Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3/SavedSims' depending on what operating system your computer has. Once you locate that folder, the exported pet will be in there! You then open an email to the new owner, or person receiving the pet, and insert that .sim file and send.
What is "Studding" and how does it work?
When you stud out your pets, usually the female is sent to the owner of the male, that person installs their female into their game, breeds her with the chosen stud, and once pregnancy is comfirmed you send the pregnant mare back to the original owner and delete her from your game. You would need to export her by using the "split up household" option from the edit town screen, and "split" the female pet and a travel sim into their own household and then once those two are in your clipboard, you save that household (of travel sim and female pet) into your library, and then that is the file you send back to the owner! Some people choose to hold the female until she gives birth, and then send her and the newborn back to the owner (after you edit the newborns coat to your liking if you choose to do so). Of course, always deleting the other persons animal from your game, computer, and email promptly (unless otherwise agreed on) is common courtesy.
What are "Registries" and how do they work?
Each registry is owned by a different person usually. A regular person like you or me who may be interested in a breed will choose to host a registry, so will in turn set up a website and take applications from other people to register their animals based off of their lineage and screenshots to show that the animal meets the breed requirements. Sometimes registries will offer a certificate of registration and/or a registration stamp for you to place on your registered pets profile.
At this time, Sims-Pets is not taking applications for horse registries because we are in the process of joining up with another Equine-only site (Western Eventing Forums), who are going to be hosting the horse registry list. So we plan to work together with them once their new site is up, which we are very excited about! So that is why we are only at this time listing dog/cat/other species on our main site, and only accepting applications for those types of registries.
